NOD finds your Mac automatically — there is nothing to type in. If it stays on Looking for your computer, check these in order:

1. Is X-Plane 12 actually running? The NOD companion only answers while X-Plane is open.
2. Did you fully quit and reopen X-Plane after installing? This is the most common cause. Reloading plugins from inside X-Plane does not pick up a newly installed add-on. Quit X-Plane completely, then open it again.
3. Are both devices on the same network? Same Wi-Fi name, and not a guest network. Guest networks deliberately block devices from seeing each other. A Mac on Ethernet and an iPhone on Wi-Fi is fine, as long as they are the same network.
4. Is Local Network permission on? iOS Settings › NOD › Local Network. Without it NOD cannot see your Mac at all.
5. Firewall. If macOS asked whether to allow incoming connections for X-Plane, allow it. System Settings › Network › Firewall.

Then tap SEARCH AGAIN in the app. It appears under the message after about ten seconds of searching, and looks again without disturbing anything else.

If NOD shows it is connected but the view does not move, the usual cause is that no neutral has been set yet. NOD sends nothing until you press CENTER.

Sit the way you actually fly, look straight ahead, and press CENTER. The view should follow immediately.

If the app says Demo ended, your ten free minutes are used up — your setup is fine and tracking resumes as soon as you unlock NOD Core.

Press CENTER again while sitting the way you normally fly. Nine times out of ten that is it.

NOD takes your head position at the moment you press CENTER as the neutral, so pressing it while leaning, or while glancing at the phone, makes that leaning position the new “straight ahead”.

Turning the phone between portrait and landscape also asks for a fresh CENTER, because the frame of reference has genuinely changed.

Stand the iPhone facing you, about an arm’s length away, upright and roughly at face height. Anything that holds it steady works.

Even light on your face helps, and a bright window directly behind you hurts — the camera is looking into the light.

Tracking resumes by itself when your face comes back, and you do not need to press CENTER again. If it stays stuck, a Retry tracking button appears after about eight seconds; it restarts the camera only and keeps your neutral.

This means the iPhone app and the Mac companion are different versions and cannot talk to each other properly.

Update both to the current release: install the latest NOD for Mac from the download page, quit and reopen X-Plane, and make sure the iPhone app is up to date in the App Store.

1. Download NOD for X-Plane.dmg from the download page, on the Mac that runs X-Plane.
2. Open it and run Install NOD. It finds your X-Plane 12 installation and puts the companion in place. If it cannot find X-Plane, it asks you to pick the X-Plane 12 folder — the one containing X-Plane.app.
3. Quit X-Plane 12 completely and open it again.
4. Open NOD on your iPhone. It finds the Mac by itself.

NOD gives you ten minutes of successful simulator tracking, once, so you can prove it works on your own setup before buying anything.

Only real tracking counts. Time spent looking for your Mac, paused, or with NOD in the background does not use the allowance. Settings shows how much is left at any time.

When it runs out your setup keeps working — only the head tracking output stops. Unlocking NOD Core resumes it immediately, on the same connection, without re-centring.

Open NOD, go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases. It is also on the purchase screen.

Make sure the iPhone is signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with. NOD Core is a one-time purchase tied to that account, so it restores on any device you sign in to — at no extra cost.
